How do social identities and special skills apply themselves in the business world in terms of careers?
Hypothesis
Social identities and special skills are very important factors in the business world of music. Having a popular image and having merchandise lines seem to be the most important factors for musicians to make money nowadays.
Interest
I am interested in learning about the economics of the music industry because I am curious about where musicians make their money. I want to know what is the difference between millionaire pop singers and small indie musicians and the difference in economic decisions they made to get where they are. Music culture has changed in the recent years with music able to be streamed by Pandora and Spotify, and I am wondering how this change in the way we purchase music has affected musicians economically.
