Is there a solution to water pollution?

Water pollution has been a growing problem since the nineteenth century when industrialization began. It has caused waterborne diseases and a greater scarcity of clean drinking water. The government tried to resolve this problem by building reservoirs and aqueducts to transport clean water from other areas rather than just cleaning the water itself. However, this method of controlling water pollution proved to be insufficient.
Scientists have proved that there is a clear link between waterborne diseases and human waste in water supplies. Also, urban pollution and runoff from fertilizers used in modern agriculture brought down the water quality of many lakes. The government has made efforts to control water pollution, such as the Clean Water Act. However, non-point pollution sources such as runoff and vehicle exhaust continue to pollute our water. Also, litter and landfills are filling up our oceans. Our government has not created solutions to these problems and our water sources continue to grow more and more scarce.

  2. I think Kelly has a great point by asking if we can solve this problem. Also, an important topic that would be interesting to read about is how important you think this issue is with other issues that the world faces and what we can do to stop it. On the article itself, it is very clear and laid out which makes it easy to read.

  3. Like Kelly said, has your research led you to believe there are solutions? What are they?
