When an actor makes it to Hollywood everyone thinks their career is set, but this is anything but true. The acting business is cut throat and after your five seconds of fame, some actors disappear. Getting into the acting business is hard, but staying relevant is even harder.
If an actor tries to reboot his career and no one shows up, does the reboot really count?
No it doesn’t count. The main purpose of rebooting your career is to get back into the press and have people notice you again, but if no one pays attention then it doesn’t count. If he is happy doing small roles, and making minimal money then it counts as continuing his passion, but he is not in the press again.
Each and every one of these talented actors had a run of tremendous success, then saw it end, either by making poor choices or because their audience appeal somehow faded away.
In the case of comedians they are known only for one talent, so they are not taken seriously in other roles. For example could anyone see Will Ferrell playing a serious heartbreak movie? Or do people still see him as Elf? Actors and comedians can try and reboot their career, but if viewers still see the actor as their last 5 seconds of fame role. then it won’t happen. Comedians fade away often, but what they do to differentiate themselves is how they succeed. For example Tom Hanks started out as a comedian, but slowly started to do bigger more serious roles. If more actors could do this then less people would disappear in the business.

The smart ones make an attempt to diversify, and the successful ones actually do crossovers, while occasionally coming back to what made them famous in the first place.
I think this is the best way for actors to stay in the press. It allows for people to not only see them as the one role that made them famous. The chances of success go up with the more creative and interesting roles actors do. In the case of Adam Sandler I have to give him 2 thumbs up for trying. Everyone sees him as an overgrown child and don’t think he can do anything else, but he is trying. In his latest movie Funny People it “wasn’t well received, but Sandler was credited with giving his best performance in ages.” This shows that people may not be paying attention to him, but he is still succeeding.
Making a comeback is a long difficult process, but definitely worth it in the end. I think Adam Sandler is someone who people should look up to because of all the hard work he is doing. Even though people might not see his comeback, he is in the slow process of starting one. Sandler has been in so many movies I can not think of him as one role. By not being seen as just one role it creates a view of Sandler that makes you think he can do anything, and wonder what he will do next. Actors need to learn to distinguish themselves like Sandler is trying to do. If actors do this then they will be extremely successful in rebooting their career.

This is a cool topic that I haven't really read much about before, and this post is written oand organized well. I like how each section built on top of the previous one, including your own personal opinions about the point. A way to improve this post would be to provide more references to an article in addition to the one quote you included.
