Coffee Commodities

Coffee shops need many things to become successful.  Unless you own a coffee shack that is widely popular with low property tax, coffee shops generally can not stay in business by just selling coffee.  Shops should be able to sell more commodities such as food, cups, mugs and coffee beans.  According to Peter Baskerville, a Forbes Writer, says that “ coffee should be no more than 40% of your weekly sales.”.  This is a surprise to me and Coffee lovers. I always thought coffee shops should sell way more coffee than anything else.

However, this statistic is primarily for small coffee shops.  Starbucks can strive just on coffee sales due to the fact how many sales they have each day as well as the high mark ups they have.  So, small town coffee shops also need to add food and other products to their menu.  Another important thing that small coffee shops need to do is have a key store location.  Without a key location, people may not know about it and it may not get business.  Small town brewers need many things to become successful and will also need a lot of luck!
