Why does anybody do anything? Because it interests them. We like the subjects that we like in school because we are either good at them or they interest us. Think about the activities you do before and after school (sleep doesn't count) and now think about why would like them. Because they interest you.
The idea that music connects to something bigger in your brain has always intrigued me. As a matter of fact, I’ve always loved music. I've played piano since I was 5 and started playing the saxophone when I was 10. Other instruments include the guitar, clarinet, bass clarinet, percussion, and the occasional flute! Music gives me excitement and I realized that in some way, shape, or form music affects all of us. Plato once said that "philosophy is the highest music" and he couldn't have been more right.
In this massive category of music philosophy, there are more subjects to try and figure out. Think of them as sub questions. Are the words of today's songs (social influences) hurting they way we think and promoting “wrong” ideas? How much of the music we listen to is influenced by our parents? Why do different people feel connections to different types of music? What is the future for the music industry as the world turns to more Pandora and Spotify applications? Why do we believe that just because a musician is rich means that we don’t have to pay for his music? Does it irritate you when other people sing along to songs on the radio (are you a music purist?)? Why do some sounds and musical keys feel better than other keys? What makes different musicians more successful than other musicians?
Not all of these questions will be explored but it’s important to know just truly how much music can impact our lives and cause us to “feel” a certain way about something.
