Jazz Is A Way Of Life, Not A Hobby

The broad focus of our group was how do social identities and special skills apply themselves in the business world in terms of careers? I chose to focus on how jazz musicians’ special skills gained by immense discipline, willingness to take risks, and life experiences from going into a less in demand career leads them to be fit for the business world.

Jazz is one of my passions and I spend most of my time listening to or playing it. It has taught me a lot about life and to not be afraid of taking risks. Having these skills is immensely important to doing well in the jazz world and it would be interesting to research how those skills apply themselves in everyday life or in the business world.

Sonny Rollins is an 84 year old tenor player who is still playing jazz to this day

Research Questions:
1. What can jazz teach musicians about life?
2. How do they gain these skills?
3. How can these skills apply themselves in everyday life?
4. What makes someone passionate about jazz?
