The Power of Experiences

 People tend to underestimate the power of experiences, often choosing for material goods over things like vacations or concerts. They think that because material goods last longer, they will get more pleasure out of them, when in fact it is the opposite. An article in the Wall Street Journal claims that “Numerous studies conducted over the past 10 years have shown that life experiences give us more lasting pleasure than material things, and yet people still often deny themselves experiences and prioritize buying material goods.” Experiences that create happiness can be a vacation, a concert, or even just getting together with some friends.

This goes back to the idea that happiness does not necessarily come from the amount of money that you have, but how you spend your money. Yes, you can pay for more experiences if you have a larger income, but choosing experiences over material goods will have a better impact on your happiness. While experiences do last for a short time, the memories from them are worth more than material goods.

    Don't many people think they will get more pleasure out of material goods because they last longer? (possible typo in this sentence: "They think that because...it is the opposite."). Good job tying this post back to your overall topic in the second paragraph. This is a really cool topic and it doesn't get too cliche by claiming that money has nothing to do with happiness.

    I like that you acknowledged that it's easier for wealthier families to pay for more experiences. I think it would be a good idea to also talk about what types of experiences lead to happiness, and maybe give some examples of an experience that improves happiness and isn't exclusive to families with higher incomes. Also, your first paragraph is single spaced but your second is not. I would make them the same.

    I liked the topic of this article a lot. It strayed from the typical idea that rich people are happy because they can buy all the material goods they want, but instead this talked about buying vacations and creating happiness from that. I definitely agree with this article and feel like vacations and traveling with the money you have can bring a lot more happiness than buying material goods. Maybe expand more on this idea next time and just lengthen your paragraphs because they had really good content and I would like to hear more about it.
