Don't forget about the Side Effects

We all know age discrimination is an unfair act that occurs often in the workplace today, but not everyone knows the negative side effects it could bring to our economy.

The fight to end age discrimination is growing more and more each day. People are starting to realize the negative effects it'll have in the long run. Susan Ople, head of Blas F. Ople policy center, said that age discrimination has caused Filipinos to go to work overseas. This policy center has also found that age discrimination results in an increase in unemployment.

Workers returning overseas are more likely to be discriminated against by age. So, age discrimination in American is not only forcing people to work overseas, but its also forcing age discrimination to continue. This is something we don't want. Good news is, "over 30 countries around the world have implemented an anti-age discrimination law or policy", bad news is, "age discrimination in the Philippines is prevalent." This returning of workers overseas will result in America not having as many workers here.

We already have enough problems with our unemployment rate in America, so why only add to the problem with age discrimination. If we continue to let age discrimination occur, our countries economy is only going to get worse. Unemployment seems to be one of the hardest problems to solve but if we can alleviate this problem by simply not discriminating by age, then that is something we can easily do.

Age discrimination happens every day. It is one of the hardest things to file suit for and the problem is rarely solved. But, this discrimination has negative side effects on our nation. Not only is it unfair but it leads to unemployment and if left unaddressed will only grow. Lets continue the fight against age discrimination.
