Ecotourism Industry on the Rise

Ecotourism is for everyone. Appreciate Nature for the holidays, don't degrade it.

Q. Is Ecotourism really that popular?

A. Yes, it is quite popular now that most environments are threatened by climate change. The most popular type of tourism is called mass tourism, which includes families traveling to a nice beach, and it is the one that is not sustainable. The government needs to set strict environmental rules if it wants to keep the areas running smoothly without degrading it. Ecotourism is a green type of tourism and it includes traveling to national parks and such. It's just as great as traveling to a beach and should be appreciated just as much! More people are visiting these protected places now and hopefully they leave with a want to help keep it clean.

Q. Is Ecotourism economically beneficial?

A. Yes, it is a benefit to the economy. In 2007, tourism generated 7 trillion dollars in revenue. That's a huge amount of money going back to the community! If we could just switch many mass tourism spots to ecotourism spots then we would be creating jobs while helping the environment. It's responsible for 231 million jobs around the world. In order to keep this industry stable or growing, the environment needs to be sustainable and clean, or else no one would care to travel anymore! The government should keep keeping national parks and wildlife clean in their top priorities.

Q. Will being an ecotourist eventually turn into an economic activist?

A. That's the hope. If more people come to these threatened areas of land and sea then maybe they will gain more respect for it. Hopefully after seeing the beauty and benefits nature has, tourists will want to donate money or live greener. Visiting these places is a lesson in sustainability and also a nice vacation. There is a lot of changes you can make to traveling that will make it more green. For example, try to find a direct flight, and if trains or bikes are available then definitely choose those ways of transportation.
